Box Score Greensboro, N.C. - University of Lynchburg women's soccer opened up their conference schedule with a 2-0 win over Guilford Friday night.
After Wednesday's game at Roanoke was postponed, the Hornets came out firing in the first half. Four different Hornets combined for six shots in the opening 25 minutes.
Amanda Wigboldy subbed on in the 26th minute and helped Lynchburg find the back of the net. Three minutes after entering the game, the senior from Lynchburg, Va. scored her first goal of the season. The Hornets are outsourcing their opponents 10-2 in the first half of games so far.
Lynchburg opened the second half similar to the first with three different Hornets taking a shot within the first 15 minutes of the resumption of play.
Grace Milligan gave Lynchburg a 2-0 lead at the 61:20 mark.
Milligan's first-career goal gave Lynchburg more than enough insurance for the rest of the match. Jade Lecklider earned the start in goal and made way for Meredith Bowers to take over in net to begin the second half. Neither goaltender faced a shot in their combined 72:53 of action. Kate Duncan played 17 minutes in net and made a save on Guilford's only shot on goal and preserved Lynchburg's third shutout, and second in a row.
The Hornets earned their fourth-straight win, marking their longest winning streak since they won five-consecutive matches from Oct. 5-16 in 2019.
Lynchburg (4-1, 1-0 ODAC) travels to Charlotte, N.C. on Sunday, Sept. 26 and will take on no. 24 Emory at 2 p.m.
