Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg women's soccer used two second half goals to get past Mary Washington Wednesday night.
Jade Lecklider, Lynchburg's undefeated goalie, was tested early on, but saved both shots that came her way in the opening ten minutes. Averey Wyscarver took a shot on goal at the 11:58 mark, but Mary Washington's goalie turned it away.
After both teams' shooting frenzy in the early going, things calmed down as neither team took a shot on goal for the rest of the first half.
The second half brought a little rain and a lot of scoring opportunities for Lynchburg. The Hornets had five corner kicks 20 minutes into the resumption of play. On the fifth corner, Taylor Smith played a ball in and Claire Lloyd rose up to bury a header into the back of the net.
Lloyd's second goal of the season caused Lynchburg to turn up the intensity. The Hornets took five shots in the five minutes after Lloyd's go-ahead goal. The intensity boiled over into both teams receiving a yellow card in the 80th minute.
Lynchburg took advantage of the physical play and Meghan Lauder drew a foul in the box, setting up an Amanda Wigboldy penalty kick with five minutes left in the game. Since scoring against Guilford, Wigboldy has eight points on three goals and two assists, and an Old Dominion Athletic Conference player of the week award to go along with it all.
Lynchburg closed out the game for their seventh-straight win. Lecklider earned the win with four saves.
The Hornets (7-1, 2-0 ODAC) travel to Lexington, Va.on Friday, Oct. 1 for a conference matchup with Washington & Lee at 7 p.m.
