Salem, Va. -- University of Lynchburg men's tennis narrowly lost out to Roanoke, 5-4, Sunday afternoon.
The Hornets started out hot with two wins in doubles play featuring wins on the top two courts. Levi Vigdorchik and Cooper Brewen took down their opponents, 8-4, at the first-doubles flight. Andrew Freeman and Carter McCleary also came up big with an 8-4 victory at No. 2.
Vigdorchik carried his momentum into single action and routed his opponent 6-0, 6-2 on the top court.
Lynchburg dropped matches in flights two-five. However, Freeman played a tightly contested match at No. 2. He won the first set, 6-0, but his opponent took the next two 4-6 and 3-6.
Christian Kumar closed out the day with a win at the sixth flight, but the Maroons edged out the Hornets, 5-4.
Lynchburg (0-1, 0-1 ODAC) hosts Ferrum on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. The match will be played at the Crosswhite Athletic Club.
