Box Score Danville, Va. -- University of Lynchburg baseball saw its eight-game winning streak snapped Tuesday afternoon.
The No. 7-ranked Hornets were shut out by Averett, 1-0.
Jack Bachmore turned in a solid outing on the mound. In his third start of the year, the junior pitched 4.2 innings of three-hit baseball with three strikeouts while only allowing one run.
The Cougars' lone run came in the fifth inning on a single to right field.
In the next inning, Garrett Jackson and Avery Neaves walked, but the Hornets could not find the equalizer. Lynchburg put two more runners on in the eighth from a Cameron Lane hit and a Gavin Collins walk, but still could not push a run across.
Lynchburg's bullpen kept things close the whole way. Adam Dofflemyer, Travis Shumate, and Grayson Thurman combined for 3.1 innings of scoreless ball with six Ks. Thurman struck out three batters himself without allowing a hit across 1.2 innings.
Logan Webster grabbed a pinch-hit single in the top of the ninth and subsequently stole second. Eric Hiett made solid contact with two outs but lined out to end the game.
The Hornets were held scoreless for the first time in 33 games.
Lynchburg (10-2) opens conference play with a double-header at home against Roanoke beginning at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 13.
