No. 5 baseball shuts out William Peace

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg baseball earned its second shutout of the season with a 14-0 victory over William Peace Tuesday afternoon.

Wesley Arrington orchestrated the shutout for the fifth-ranked Hornets. The junior worked the longest outing of his career with seven innings and only four hits. He also punched out six batters.

By the time Arrington exited the game in the eighth, the Hornets led 13-0 after scoring in five of seven trips to the plate.

Avery Neaves drove in the day's first run with an RBI groundout. After a two-RBI double from Garrett Jackson in the second inning, Neaves walked to load the bases and extend his on-base streak to 33 games. PJ Alvanos and Gavin Collins both earned RBI with bases-loaded walks for Lynchburg's third and fourth runs of the frame.

The Hornets also scored four runs in the sixth on an RBI single from Carrson Atkins and a bases-clearing double from Logan Webster

Webster and two other teammates enjoyed multihit days. Jackson slashed two hits, and Riley O'Donovan tallied the first three-hit day of his career.

Nathaniel Mack relieved Arrington in the eighth for his first-career appearance. He struck out two without allowing a run. Tommy Preston fanned one batter in the ninth to wrap up Lynchburg's fourth-consecutive win over the Pacers. The Hornets are averaging 14.75 runs in those victories.

The Hornets (27-6, 12-2 ODAC) turn around and visit Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, Apr. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
