Box Score Fredericksburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg women's soccer played to a scoreless draw with Mary Washington Wednesday afternoon.
Junior goalkeeper Jade Lecklider made three second-half saves on the path to Lynchburg's fifth shutout.
Lecklider did not face a shot in the first half as the Hornets controlled the opening 45 minutes of action. After senior forward Emily Santana put a shot on frame in the 2nd minute, the Hornets continued to outshoot the Eagles. Shortly before halftime, Santana hit the post for Lynchburg's fifth shot of the match.
Out of the break, Lecklider saved her first shot in the 47th minute. She went on to make two more saves in the next 10 minutes until the defense settled back in and quieted the Eagle attack.
Lynchburg's final opportunity to break the tie came in the 84th minute after a corner kick, but Mary Washington's keeper Ally Holden stopped Ella Tampio-Iorns' shot.
The two sides went quietly through the final six minutes and settled on a 0-0 draw, the third of such variety in 2022 for the Hornets. Lynchburg's four draws are its most since playing to a 17-3-5 mark in 2009. The Hornets made it to the semifinals of the national tournament that season.
Lynchburg (2-1-4) plays its next match in the Hill City but not in the familiar confines of Shellenberger Field. The Hornets take on Randolph in their first conference match of the season on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m.
