Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team scored in bunches Wednesday night ousting Averett 4-0 on the road.
Four different Hornets found the net on six assists throughout the contest. Lynchburg dominated possession from the opening kick, firing 27 shots with 17 on-frame.
To open the scoring, Zoe Villarreal rocketed the first shot of the match past the keeper in the 9th minute. Both Savannah Harper and Meghan Lauder were credited with assists to propel Lynchburg to an early lead.
Despite 13 shots and six corner kicks, the Hornets could not capitalize on any other opportunities throughout the first half. Averett goalkeeper Krista Hinebaugh collected seven of her 12 saves in the opening period.
Out of the locker room, the Hornets heated up. Just two minutes into the restart, junior midfielder McKenna Dahm powered a shot past Hinebaugh far-beyond the 18-yard box.Â
Less than 20 minutes later, freshman forward Sejal Wellington added to the score tally with her second-collegiate goal. Standing in the center of the field, it was touch-and-fire for Wellington to slot goal No. 3 of the night into the net.
Another Hornets freshman found the frame in the 70th minute as Ainsley Yates scored via an assist from Carly O'Leary.Â
The extra insurance slammed the door shut on the Cougars giving Lynchburg its highest-scoring result of the season.
Averett's lone shot of the contest came in the 25th minute, but the effort was blocked by Lynchburg's defense.
The Hornets improve to 3-0 in ODAC play and extend their win streak to five games heading into the weekend.
Lynchburg (7-3, 3-0 ODAC) will travel to Lexington on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. to face Washington and Lee.
