Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's tennis team took down Randolph Monday afternoon.
The Hornets swept the WildCats 9-0 during their first of four matches in six days.
Cooper Brewen and Carter McCleary won handily at the third-doubles flight, and Sebastian Sierra and Dan Hardy swept their opponents at No. 2.
Alex Rintoul and Levi Vigdorchik faced a 5-6 deficit at the first flight but battled back to win the next three games and seal the sweep of doubles action. "Had to zone in," Vigdorchik said after the match. "Focus up, hit some good balls, wins some games, and win the match." Vigdorchik's doubles partner, Rintoul, chimed in and said, "less mistakes" were the key to the comeback victory. Vigdorchik also added that after Randolph's top pairing broke serve when he missed a ball at the net, he decided it was time to go on a run and win out. The senior-freshman duo did just that and won their second No. 1-doubles match.
The Hornets continued their success in singles. Vigdorchik won his ninth match at the top-singles flight. Emile Paindavoine won at No. 2, and Lauren Muhlhause only dropped one game at No. 3. Sebastian Sierra coasted to a victory at No. 4, Christian Zepeda swept his fifth-flight opponent, and Patricio Zepeda completed the sweep with a win at No. 6.
The Hornets only dropped 11 games across the six singles matches as director of men's and women's tennis Chris Johnson coached to his 298th-career victory at Lynchburg (men's and women's teams combined).
Lynchburg (8-5, 4-2 ODAC) travels to Bridgewater on Wednesday, April 12 at 2 p.m.
