Fredericksburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team lost to Mary Washington 83-36 Friday evening.
No Hornet scored in double-figures, but Brooke Cason led the way with nine points in the one-sided affair. All of Cason's points came from beyond the 3-point arc. Sayre Brandstatter and Ashley Vandergrift were the only other Hornets to connect from deep on the night.
Riding a three-game winning streak, the Hornets ran into a fresh Eagles squad that had five days of rest coming into the contest but had lost three of their last four.
Lynchburg led 7-5 early after a Brooke Cason 3-pointer and a pair of free throws from Bree Spainhour, but the Eagles built a 10-point lead by the 2:14 mark of the opener.
The Eagles kept adding to their lead until the final buzzer when they reached a 47-point advantage, their largest lead of the night, with 49 seconds to play.
Kacey Kelly scored six points and pulled town a team-high five boards, including two off the offensive glass. The Hornets did hold the Eagles to 3-11 (27.3%) shooting from 3, but the Hornets only made five shots from deep of their own.
The Hornets (7-7, 2-5 ODAC) visit EMU on Wednesday, Jan 10 at 7:30 p.m.
