Lynchburg, Va. -- Lynchburg women's soccer team took down the Averett Cougars in their most dominant game of the season, 5-0.
The crowd cheered and applauded when the final score was announced over the PA system at Shellenberger Field. However, it was followed by an eruption right after when head coach Dr. Todd Olsen's 500th career win at the helm was announced just after.
Since taking over the helm in 1994, Olson has instilled a tradition and culture of success in the Hill City. During his 29 seasons with the Hornets, Olsen has posted 28 winning seasons and has advanced to the NCAA tournament 21 times, including a national championship in 2014. The decorated skipper continues to carry on the rich tradition of success this season as well. With seven wins under his belt this season, the Hornets have proved they are clearly on the hunt for more.
The win showcased the momentum the Hornets have gained recently. In their last three contests, Lynchburg has cruised to three straight wins while outscoring their opponents 11-0.
Tonight, the Hornets had five different players find the back of the net, with Madelyn Boyce, Leilianis Irigoyen, and Ava Olson scoring in the first half and Lauren Orner and Allie Smulik scoring in the final 45.
With no signs of slowing down, Lynchburg will take on Randolph-Macon this Saturday, Oct. 19, for their homecoming and senior day match.
