Glassboro, N.J. – The Lynchburg men's cross country squad surged late to stamp a first-place finish at the Interregional Border Battle hosted by Rowan University.

Though most of the team raced in Salem, a small group from the men's team traveled north to compete against several stellar DIII opponents. Lynchburg defeated Washington & Lee and John Hopkins, two top-20 schools in the national rankings.

Chasen Hunt led the Hornets crew with a second-place finish for 24:06.0. Hunt has steadily progressed with each performance during the 2024 season, despite facing tougher courses. 

Sam Llaneza crossed the finish line in 24:40.9 for fifth place, moving past two Washington & Lee runners in the final kilometer to help seal the victory. The Generals maintained fourth, fifth, and sixth place before the final kick.

Cooper Hurst ran 24:48.2 and recorded a personal best in his tenth-place finish. The senior improved seven seconds from his time at the Paul Short Run. Tor Hotung-Davidsen finished 16th (25:03.6) and Alex Jordan placed 18th (25:05.8) to close the scoring, winning by seven points.

Jordan's performance served as a 52-second PR as the freshman now sits on the cusp of breaking the 25-minute mark.

This weekend's result marks the first team victory for Lynchburg during the 2024 cross country season. In two weeks, the Hornets will travel to Salem, Va. for the 2024 ODAC Cross Country Championships with aspirations to repeat as champions for a fourth-consecutive season.
