Hornets Conquer NC Wesleyan, 71-46

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team grabbed the lead halfway through the first period and kept it for the remainder of the game en rout to a 71-46 victory over NC Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon in Turner Gym.

The Hornets (2-4) claimed their second win of the season in commanding fashion on the back of an 18-point performance from sophomore guard Kate Littlejohn. She made five-of-eight from the field, including three-of-five from beyond the arc, and added two rebounds and one assist to her stat-line.

Junior forward Bree Spainhour dished out a career-best seven assists while tallying 12 points, six boards and two blocks. Junior guard Brooke Cason produced 11 points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists to round out Hornet performers with double-figure points. Freshman guard Audra Petty snagged a season-high 10 rebounds, and added two blocks and a steal.

The Bishops notched a five-point advantage to start the contest thanks to a 3-pointer from Nadia Simmons and jumper from Dorinda Jordan. Following a long-range shot from Cason and a bucket in the paint from Spainhour, the Hornets knotted the score at 7-7 with 5:49 left in the first quarter. After a Wesleyan bucket, Lynchburg rallied for an 11-2 run to close out the period and own a 20-11 lead. Littlejohn led the run with five of the Hornets' 11 points during the stretch.

After Lynchburg went in front in the first quarter, the lead did not switch for the remainder of the contest. The advantage for the home team extended to as many as 15 points in the first half and 33 points in the final 20 minutes.

Lynchburg is set to hit the road for its second ODAC competition of the season when the Hornets take on Hollins on Wednesday, December 4 at 7 p.m. in Roanoke, Va.
