Lynchburg Powers To 68-55 Win Over Webster

Nashville, Tenn. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team had senior guard Olivia Harris earn her second double-double of the season with 24 points, tying her career-high, and 11 rebounds to help the Hornets claim victory over Webster, 68-55, on Friday night in the Music City Classic.

Harris paved the way to triumph for the Hornets (5-5) with her game-leading performance, cashing five-of-seven from beyond the arc and nine-of-14 total field goals. Freshman guard Audra Petty played a significant role as well, scoring a collegiate-best 19 points while tallying six boards, two assists, and one steal. Petty drained four-of-eight 3-pointers and made seven-of-12 shots from the field. Junior forward Bree Spainhour scored 13 points to round out Lynchburg performers with double-figure point totals.

With the score knotted at 7-7 just four minutes into the contest, the Hornets produced an 11-1 run that gave them the lead for good. Petty drained two from long range and Harris notched five points during the stretch that gave Lynchburg an 18-9 advantage with 3:43 to go in the first period. Spainhour and Harris each scored three points to start the second quarter and give Lynchburg a double-figure lead, 28-15, with 6:54 left in the first half.

The Hornets held onto their double-digit advantage until the final five minutes of the fourth quarter. With 5:39 remaining, Webster's Rylee Denbow scored seven straight points to cut the Gorloks' deficit to five, 58-53, with 4:01 on the clock. Lynchburg pushed back and finished the contest on a 10-2 rally that sealed the victory.

Of the nine Lynchburg performers that saw the court tonight, seven of them scored and all nine grabbed at least two rebounds. The Hornets snagged a season-best 18 offensive boards and tied their highest total of the season on the glass with 50 rebounds as a team.

The women's basketball crew has finished competitions in 2024 and looks ahead to its next outing on Sunday, January 5 at 2 p.m.
