Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's tennis team opened up its 2024 schedule with a 9-0 victory over William Peace on Saturday.
The Pacers didn't produce a No. 3-doubles pair or a player for No. 6 singles, so the Hornets started the match with a 2-0 advantage.
The Hornets still won their other seven matches beginning with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles for Levi Vigdorchik and Alex Rinotul as well as an 8-6 win at No. 2 for Dan Hardy and Shadi Kallel.
In singles action, Rintoul and Zepeda didn't drop a game at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Dan Hardy won 12 of 13 games on the third court, Kallel won in his debut for the Hornets at No. 2 6-1, 6-1, and Vigdorchik continued where he left off with strong play at the top-singles flight. He won the first set, then narrowly dropped the second 5-7. In a tiebreaker third set, he downed Sam Jones from William Peace 10-2.
The Hornets (1-0) jump right into conference action on Sunday, Feb. 25 when they take on Randolph-Macon at home at 3 p.m.
