Hilton Head Island, S.C. -- The University of Lynchburg men's tennis team defeated St. Mary 7-2 Sunday afternoon.
Lynchburg took victories at the top two doubles seedings. Levi Vigdorchik and Alex Rintoul won at No. 1 doubles 8-7 (7-4 in tiebreak), and the duo of Dan Hardy and Shadi Kallel won at No. 2 doubles 8-6. At No. 3 doubles, Christian Zepeda and Patricio Zepeda took the match to a tiebreak, where they fell to Andrew Hand and Max Esztergomi 7-8 (7-9 in tiebreak). Lynchburg entered singles with a 2-1 advantage.
In singles play, Vigdorchik cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles. Kallel fell in a close matchup at No. 2 singles against Nick Rohr 3-6, 7-5, 9-11. In his season debut, Sebastian Sierra emerged victorious at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-3. In a three set thriller, Hardy took the win at No. 4 singles 7-5, 3-6, 11-9. Christian Zepeda won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, and his brother, Patricio Zepeda, dominated at No. 6 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0.Â
With this victory, Lynchburg continues its undefeated start to the season, extending their active win streak to four. Lynchburg (4-0, 2-0 ODAC) will continue competition in Hilton Head Island Monday, March 11 against Asbury.
