Hilton Head Island, S.C. -- The University of Lynchburg men's tennis team lost its first match of the year to Asbury (Ky.) 8-1 on Monday afternoon.
The Hornets came into the match 4-0, but Lynchburg's No. 2-doubles pairing earned the lone point for the team against Asbury.
Dan Hardy and Sebastian Sierra teamed up at No. 2 for the first time this semester and won 8-5. Alex Rintoul and Levi Vigdorchik lost in a tiebreak at No. 1, and Patricio Zepeda and Shadi Kallel fell at the third flight.
In singles action, Vigdorchik won the first set, lost the second, then fell for the first time this season in a third-set tiebreak. Kallel lost 1-6, 4-6 at No. 2, Hardy was blanked at No. 3, Sierra lost a tough match at No. 4, Christian Zepeda fell at No. 5, and Patricio Zepeda lost 3-6, 1-6 at No. 6.
The Hornets (4-1) take on SUNY Oswego on Wednesday, March 13 in South Carolina.
