Raleigh, N.C. -- The Lynchburg women's lacrosse team suffered a narrow 13-11 loss on the road at Meredith on Saturday.
The Avenging Angels started the game hot, leading 3-1 halfway through the first quarter. Lynchburg quickly responded with goals from Sydney Dumas and Neely Morris leveling the score. The Avenging Angels regained and extended their lead throughout the quarter, ending with a three-goal advantage.
The Hornets started the second period on the attack, cutting the lead to just one goal. Similarly to the first quarter, Meredith regained momentum and reclaimed their three-goal lead, taking tan 8-5 lead into halftime.
Dumas completed her hat trick in the third quarter, while McKenna Steinau opened her account for the game in the same period. Despite the Hornets' charge, Meredith headed into the final quarter up 12-8. Two back-to-back goals from Steinau in the fourth quarter put the Hornets just one score away from the Avenging Angels with only five minutes left. Meredith was able to net an insurance goal and take down the Hornets for the second year in a row.Â
Dumas took her tally to 14 for the season, scoring three or more in every Hornets contest, while Steinau extended her goal total to eight with a hat trick of her own.Â
The Hornets travel to Demorest, Ga. to take on Piedmont in their next game on Monday, March 11 at 1 p.m.
