Women's lacrosse gets eight points from Dumas in road win

Demorest, Ga. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team earned its third double-digit win of the season on Monday afternoon with a 19-7 win over Piedmont.

The Hornets are 3-2 on the season with a +27 goal differential. It was Lynchburg's first road win of the year after scoring 16 and 20 goals against Methodist and Southern Virginia at home, respectively.

Sydney Dumas led the team with four goals and four assists for her fifth straight game with at least a hat trick. It marks a new single-game best for Dumas. She had seven points on April 15, 2023 against Randolph-Macon as a freshman.

McKenna Steinau and Tori King also recorded hat tricks in the win. Steinau scored a career-best five goals and has 12 goals in her last three starts.

Lynchburg was in control of the contest from the opening draw control. Taylor Daugherty won the first draw, and Reagan Bradley scored Lynchburg's first goal 4:49 into play. The Hornets outscored Piedmont 7-2 in the first quarter, and Dumas notched her hat trick before the first quarter break.

Lynchburg had three power-play goals in the win, and the third one came with 5:49 left in the first half from Steinau. That power-play goal signaled Steinau's hat trick, put Lynchburg up 11-6, and started a nine-goal run lasting nearly the entire rest of the game. Piedmont scored the last goal of the game with 6:36 left to play and after Jenna Norko scored her fourth goal of the season to close out Lynchburg's ledger.

Neely Morris led the team with four caused turnovers and four draw controls, Virginia Heffernan collected a team-best six ground balls, and Corinne West made seven saves.

Lynchburg (3-2) hosts Messiah at noon on Thursday, March 14.
