Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg softball team split with DePauw on Sunday at home dropping Game 1 7-9 and shutting out the Tigers 3-0 in Game 3.
Lynchburg never led in Game 1 but was tied with the Tigers 2-2 until the sixth inning. Jessica Strickland had the initial game-tying triple in the second inning. The Tigers used a five-person infield against the left-handed Strickland leaving right field empty. The reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference player of the year lifted a ball to right scoring two and getting all the way to third by the time the center fielder chased it down in the right-field corner.
The Tigers got to Kailey Dorcsis for on ein the sixth and six in the seventh. The Hornets nearly battled back in the bottom of the inning with pinch-hit RBI from Zoe Elliott and Alex DiNardo, an RBI double from Madison Barnes, and another RBI from Georgia Thompson However, the Hornets couldn't scratch enough runs across in time and lost their first game on Moon Field of the season.
Logan Curtis went the distance in Game 2 and earned her second win of the season. Lynchburg did all its damage in the second inning beginning with an RBI single from Addison Walter. Strickland earned another RBI on a walk with the bases loaded, and Kaleigh Hackett drove in the third run of the game with a sacrifice fly.
Lynchburg (14-4, 2-0 ODAC) hosts Ferrum on Wednesday, March 27 for a double-header beginning at 2 p.m.
