Lynchburg, Va. The University of Lynchburg softball team split a home double-header with Bridgewater on Friday. Lynchburg won the first game 4-1 and fell in the second 5-4.
Kailey Dorcsis earned her ninth win of the year. She went the distance striking out eight and only allowed five hits. She didn't walk a batter. Lynchburg nearly matched Bridgewater's hit total in the first inning. The Hornets scored four on four hits in the bottom of the first. Alyssa Talayumptewa drove in the first two runs of the game with an RBI double. That was all the scoring the Hornets did in the game as Dorcsis carried Lynchburg to a victory the rest of the way.
In Game 2, the Hornets struck first once more. Talayumptewa lined out to center, and Addison Walter tagged up on the play. The throw from center was off target, and Walter advanced home on the error.
The Eagles pulled into the lead in the fourth 5-2, and even though the Hornets closed the gap to one in the next half inning, Bridgewater held on for the victory. Walter, Georgia Thompson, and Kaleigh Hackett each had two hits in the loss.
The Hornets (17-5, 5-1 ODAC) are ranked 25th in the NFCA poll and are on the road for a double-header with Guilford on Tuesday, April 2.
