Greensboro, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg softball team dropped both its games on the road to Guilford on Tuesday 5-0 and 8-7.
After being shut out in the first game of the day, the Hornets put up much more of a fight in Game 2 and jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first three innings. The Hornets scored two runs on sacrifice flies from Zoe Elliott and Georgia Thompson, a bases-loaded walk from Bri Hodges, and an RBI single from Elliott.
While Guilford hung seven on the Hornets in the bottom of the fourth, the Hornets weren't done scoring. They rallied for one run in the sixth off a Lexi Powell double and two in the seventh. After Thompson doubled home Carly Hudnall, Madison Barnes tied the game up with a sacrifice fly to score Kaleigh Hackett who entered as a pinch runner. However, Guilford once more had an answer and walked it off in the bottom of the seventh sweeping the Hornets.
Lynchburg (17-7, 5-3 ODAC) takes on EMU next on Saturday, April 6 in Harrisonburg, Va.
