Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's tennis team fell to the No. 32 ranked Washington and Lee Generals Thursday afternoon.
Lynchburg dropped all three doubles matches. Levi Vigdorchik and Alex Rintoul fell on court one 5-8, after a close battle with a formidable opponent. Sebastian Sierra and Dan Hardy experienced the same fate on court two. Lastly, Patricio Zepeda and Shadi Kallel fell at the third flight 2-8.
In singles action, Christian Zepeda dropped his match at the fifth flight 2-6, 0-6. On court two, Kallel won a game in each set. Sierra lost his match on court three 1-6, 2-6. Rintoul was having a great match on court four. After dominating the first set 6-2, he fell in the second set 6-7 (6-10 in tiebreak), and was forced to retire during the third set tiebreak due to injury. Vigdorchik faced Evan Erb, who is the 27th ranked singles player in Division III, and fifth in the region, on court one. He took the first set 6-4, but fell in the second set 1-6. Vigdorchik lost the third set tiebreaker 7-10. Patricio Zepeda finished last, falling 2-6, 0-6 at the sixth flight.
Despite the result, Lynchburg's coaching staff was proud of the effort and fight displayed by the Hornets.Â
Lynchburg finished the regular season 10-5 (5-4 ODAC), good for sixth in the conference. This is Lynchburg's best regular season performance since finishing 7-3 back in 2021. Vigdorchik caps a senior campaign where he went 10-3 in singles competition this season. Rintoul, a sophomore, finished 8-3 in matches where he played at the fourth flight. The doubles duo of Hardy and Sierra also proved to be successful this season on court two, finishing 6-2 this season. Hardy was the most successful doubles player on the team, finishing 10-3 in doubles matches this season.
