Virginia Beach, Va. -- University of Lynchburg softball junior pitcher Kailey Dorcsis tossed her sixth shutout of the season in Lynchburg's Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament opener on Friday.
Dorcsis only allowed two hits as she nearly completely shut down the Eagles. She didn't strike out any batters but only walked one as she shut out the Eagles with only 79 pitches. It's the least amount of hits she's given up in a complete game in her career.
Carly Hudnall led off the day for Lynchburg offensively with a single and went 2-3 on the day. However, Lynchburg didn't score until the fourth when Kaleigh Hackett tripled home Sarah Watts. Lynchburg added an insurance run in the sixth with some small ball. Hudnall recorded another leadoff single, and Madison Barnes bunted her to second. Hudnall reached third on a passed ball before Watts drove her home with a sacrifice fly.
The Hornets (28-11) will take on the host team Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, May 4 at 1:30 p.m. If Lynchburg defeats No. 11 Va. Wesleyan, the Hornets will play Sunday, May 5 for a chance to advance to the championship series next weekend. A loss to the Marlins does not end the season for the Hornets however, but they will have to play the winner of Shenandoah and Bridgewater in an elimination game to keep their postseason hopes alive.
