Terre Haute, Ind. -- The University of Lynchburg cross country team sent a select number of its student-athletes to the John McNichols Invite and competed against 27 programs from across the country, including many competitive NCAA Division I schools, on Saturday morning.
The men raced in the 8k and completed the event in 6th-place.
Chasen Hunt paced the No. 5 Lynchburg squad with a 10th-place finish for 24:37.5.
Tor Hotung-Davidsen was next to finish up for the Hornets with a time of 25:10.9 that placed him 43rd overall.
Sam Llaneza (25:36.5),
Cooper Hurst (25:44.4), and
Cameron Sidebotham (26:08.5) rounded out the top-five runners for Lynchburg. As a freshman, Sidebotham's showing displayed promise for things to come. A bright future ahead for the young performer.
Aidan Riggle (26:51.5),
Alex Jordan (26:52.2), and Joshua Fretwell (27:23.5) were the other three competitors that ran for the Hornets in the event. Five other top-10 Division III schools took part in the meet: No. 1 UW-La Crosse, No. 2 Wartburg, No. 5 Lynchburg, No. 6 North Central, and No. 7 Johns Hopkins. The race took place at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, which is where the 2024 DIII National Championship will take place, allowing programs to get a preview of what to expect come championship time.
Next up for the Lynchburg cross country squad is the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh. The Hornets will travel up to Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday, October 5 for the event.
