Selinsgrove, Pa. -- The University of Lynchburg field hockey squad bounced back with a 3-1 win over Susquehanna on Sunday afternoon on Sassafras Field.
The No. 11 Hornets (5-2) came into the contest determined to get the victory. Just under three minutes into the outing, Lynchburg midfielder
Madison Mark netted the opener off a dish from forward
Olivia van Metre. Susquehanna midfielder Mady Quigley scored the equalizer 5:20 later off a penalty corner. Neither side scored for the remainder of the first half and the squads went into the intermission with one goal each on the scoreboard.
Following the halftime break, forward Jill Pleiter scored her fourth goal of the season and gave the Hornets the lead, finishing an assist by van Metre at the 36:19-mark. Less than four minutes later, midfielder Tatum Humphries extended Lynchburg's lead with a solo goal and capped off scoring in the affair.
Lynchburg led the competition in shots and shots on goal with 16 and 11, respectively. Pleiter paced the offensive prowess for the Hornets, firing off a team-leading five shots and three on frame. Goalkeeper Shay Schoones was a wall between the pipes, stopping seven total shots, which was her second-highest save total of the season. Three of those stops came in the final 15 minutes and attributed to stopping Susquehanna from inching closer.Â
The Hornets will head into their first ODAC matchup of the season for their next contest when they face the Bridgewater Eagles on Wednesday, October 2 at 4:30 p.m. on Shellenberger Field. The game will have live stats available and will be streamed live on the Lynchburg Hornets Sports Network YouTube channel.
