Ashland, Va. -- The Lynchburg men's volleyball team closed out the Macon Invitational with a 1-3 loss to Eastern. 

For the first time this season, Lynchburg had a contest reach the fourth set. Nevertheless, it resulted in their third consecutive loss. 

Nick Redding and Jeremiah Costello both finished with double-digit kills, recording 13 and 11 respectively. Bryce Jackson led the team with two blocks to go along with his nine kills. Miller Varley had a strong performance, dishing out a season-high 36 assists. 

Eastern jumped out in front of the Hornets in the opening frame after a series of Lynchburg errors. The Hornets collected a season-high 11 attacking errors in the first set. These miscues helped Eastern claim a 25-20 win in the first set. 

In the ensuing set, Lynchburg quickly recollected themselves and got started early on. Two early 3-0 runs for Lynchburg would end up being instrumental, as Eastern failed to string together three points for the entirety of the frame. The Hornets went on to win the second, 25-22.

However, Eastern quickly responded. In the third set, Eastern put together four separate 4-0 runs, helping them push forward to a 25-17 win. The Eagles then opened up the fourth frame with five straight points and refused to give up the lead from that point on. Eastern closed out the contest with a 25-17 victory in the fourth set. 

Lynchburg now drops to 2-3 (0-1) on the season with a pair of home affairs on deck. The Hornets will host Averett (1-1) and Marymount (2-3) on Saturday, Feb. 1, for a round-robin showcase.
