Ashland, Va. -- The Hornets dropped their first game of the Macon Invitational to Messiah, 0-3.
Nick Redding led the team in kills, finishing with 10.
Bryce Jackson scored the sole ace on the day in the second frame. Defensively, the Hornets racked up blocks, with three players recording at least three:
Stefan Kapitanov (3),
Miller Varley (3), and Jackson (4).
In the early stages of the first frame, both sides were equally matched. However, the Falcons quickly put together a 7-0 to claim the momentum. They would ride that wave to the end of the first set and seal a 25-17 victory.
The second set proved to be more of the same. Despite a well-played frame by the Hornets, Messiah continued to stack possessions and create multiple little runs that made it challenging for the Hornets to claim the lead. Todd Snyder with four kills and one block in the second set, helped the the Falcons claim a 25-21 win. In what became the third and final frame, Messiah jumped out to an early 9-5 lead. The Falcon's lead then rapidly balloons to 17-7. Messiah would go on to win 25-16.
After this contest, the Hornets fall to 2-2, still yet to have a match reach the fourth set. Lynchburg will retake the floor for the second game this weekend against Eastern.
