Hornets Tackle DI Competition at Brant Tolsma Invitational

Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg indoor track & field teams tallied several top-ten finishes against Division I competition at the Brant Tolsma Invitational hosted by Liberty University.

The two-day event kicked off on Friday afternoon with Marko Kovacevic setting a personal best in the men's 3k, crossing the line in 8:24.97 for fourth. Cooper Hurst finished ninth with an 8:30.59 performance, just hundredths from his PR. Georgie Lanham set a personal best in the women's 5k with an 18:58.04 time for 10th, completing her second event during her collegiate indoor career.

In the pole vault, Allison Bobst finished third with an 11' 5¾" (3.50m) mark, while Cameron Weber finished 10th with a 10' 5¾" (3.20m) result.

Micah Leech just missed a top-ten performance in the men's long jump, setting a 21' 11¼" (6.69m) mark for 11th. Julian Powell found the podium in the men's pole vault with a third-place mark of 13' 11¼" (4.25m).

On Saturday, grad student Josh Fretwell set a personal best in the men's 800, clocking 1:57.25 for ninth place in the field. This 800m performance marks Fretwell's second PR in his two indoor meets this season. Molly Silva placed seventh in the women's 800m, crossing the line in 2:18.56.

A trio of Hornets placed inside the top ten of the men's 1,000m, an event typically restricted to only the high school track & field landscape. Randy White placed second (2:31.11), Carter Herklotz placed fourth (2:34.03), and Chase Maters finished ninth (2:40.60).

For the women's team, Hannah Edwards placed seventh in the 1k, clocking 3:00.28 in an exclusively DI section.

In the final event, the Lynchburg women's squad placed 10th in the 4x400m relay with a 4:05.77 finish. This result marks the sixth-best time in indoor program history for the 4x400m relay.

Next weekend, the indoor squad will split its travel plans between Wittenberg University's Steemer Showcase and Roanoke College's Bast-Cregger Invitational.
