Buena Vista, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's tennis team earned a decisive 7-0 victory over Southern Virginia on Thursday evening at the Tennis Complex to wrap up the fall slate of competitions.
Lynchburg started strong in doubles play, capturing wins in all three spots. At the top position,
Ricards Spaks and Patricio Zepeda took control and closed out a 6-2 win over Mason Pitcher and Tracen Karrasch. The No. 2 pairing of
Daniel Gomes and
Nicholas Pierreux claimed a 6-3 victory against SVU foes Traejen Kingston and Trent McBride. On court three, the duo of
Alex Rintoul and
Sebastian Soria matched the result from the No. 1 spot, posting a 6-2 victory against Mateo Molanphy and Jacob Feldman.
In singles competition, Lynchburg swept all six courts. Spaks set the tone at No. 1 with a straight-sets win, 6-3, 6-0, over Pitcher. Gomes battled through a close three-set contest versus Karrasch at No. 2, ultimately prevailing 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. At the No. 3 spot,
Sebastian Sierra delivered a steady performance to win 6-3, 6-3 against Kingston. Pierreux followed by closing out a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 4 singles against McBride, while Soria added a 6-3, 6-2 result on court five over Feldman. Zepeda helped complete the sweep with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 6.
The Hornets finished the fall season strong with today's assertive triumph and now look to prepare for the upcoming spring season. The team's schedule of spring matches will be announced at a later date.
