Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team looks to end a two-game skid against No. 9 Washington & Lee on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 5:00 p.m. as Homecoming festivities come to a close.
Lynchburg leads the all-time series with 21 victories, eight defeats and six draws, though the Hornets endured losses in back-to-back meetings with the Generals. Since 1999, Lynchburg has never dropped three consecutive games in the series.
The Hornets currently sit in seventh place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings with four conference matches to play. Three of Lynchburg's final five games will be at home, including Saturday's celebration of Homecoming Weekend and Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 25 against Bridgewater.
Lynchburg owns one goal between the previous three matches and has not outshot an opponent since facing Averett on Saturday, Oct. 4. Morgan Oliver leads the club with eight goals and five assists.
Following a 1-0 defeat to Shenandoah, the Hornets hope to recover after conceding the lone goal in the 90th minute. Lynchburg's two recent losses both feature double digits in the Hornets' shots column.
W&L boasts an 11-2-1 overall record, along with an unblemished 7-0 profile in ODAC play. The Generals have won seven consecutive games and outscored ODAC opponents 30-1 throughout the regular season.
Entering Saturday, W&L holds the top spot in the ODAC standings following Wednesday's 2-0 victory over Randolph-Macon on the road. Elizabeth Zimmerman and Helen Otteni's goals headline the Generals' dominant offensive effort in the match, featuring a 25-5 shot advantage with five corner kicks.
Sisters Sarah and Megan Zimmerman lead the W&L attack with five goals each, and five players own at least four goals on the season. Nine Generals boast 14 starts, including goalkeeper Kate McEnroe, who leads the conference with a 0.41 GAA.
No. 12 Swarthmore and No. 1 Emory are the two opponents who managed to topple W&L, both by a 1-0 scoreline. Last season, the Generals earned a 20-2-1 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Third Round.
Before the women's soccer match, the Lynchburg field hockey team will face Bridgewater at 11:00 a.m., while the men's soccer team takes on Eastern Mennonite at 2:00 p.m. Homecoming tailgates begin at 11:00 a.m. in the parking lot adjacent to Hopwood Hall above Shellenberger Field.
