Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg men's and women's cross country teams continue their postseason journey on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the NCAA South Region Championships, hosted by Roanoke College at Green Hill Park in Salem, Va.
Saturday's meet features the men's race at 10:00 a.m, with the women's race slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. In the men's 8k, athletes from 30 different schools will compete, while 33 schools will be represented in the women's 6k.
The top team in each race will receive an automatic bid to compete at the NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships in Spartanburg, S.C. Lynchburg's women's team captured regional titles in 2022 and 2023, while the men emerged victorious in 2023 and 2024 to earn an NCAA bid. In 2022, the Lynchburg men fell to Emory by just one point despite boasting the top two finishers.
Between the men's and women's teams, Lynchburg has produced four of the past six regional champions, dating back to 2022.
In recent years, the Hornets have traveled hundreds of miles for regional competition, although Green Hill Park is situated just an hour and a half away from the Hill City. Several Lynchburg athletes competed at Green Hill Park in mid-October for the South Region Showdown, which featured the same course that will be run for Saturday's regional meet.
Temperatures will elevate into the 70s by the afternoon, though spectators can expect comfortable conditions in the morning under cloudy skies. At 10:00 a.m., the temperature in Salem, Va. is expected to be 62 degrees with eight mph winds.
Lynchburg finished second on the men's and women's sides at the 2025 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships in Bridgewater, Va. The men's team enters the weekend ranked second in the South Region behind ODAC foe Washington & Lee, while the women's team occupies sixth place in the South.
