Leech, Swicegood Awarded ODAC Field Athlete of the Week Honors

Forest, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg track and field athletes Micah Leech and Kenzie Swicegood were named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday.

Leech and Swicegood had spectacular showings in the first weekend of indoor track and field competitions. Leech kicked off the action at the Liberty Kickoff on Thursday in group B of the men's heptathlon, racking up 4999 points to finish second in the pod, a point total would have qualified for last year's NCAA Championships as the 11th mark in the country. The junior earned individual victories in multiple events, including the pole vault (13' 11¼" or 4.25m), and finishing inside the top five of five separate events. He placed eighth in the high jump (1.79m), fourth in the long jump (6.82m), and seventh in the shot put (10.55m), all of which were the top-marks for DIII competitors.

Swicegood competed at both the Liberty Kickoff and the Shenandoah Holiday Kickoff this weekend, setting stellar marks in her events. At the Liberty Kickoff, she placed seventh overall in the weight throw with a 15.54m final measurement, claiming the highest mark of DIII participants. Multiple attempts of hers in the event would have qualified for 2024-25 NCAA Championships. She followed up on Sunday at the Shenandoah kickoff with two first-place finishes in throwing events. In the weight throw, Swicegood posted a 55' 1" (16.79m) personal-best performance to dominate the field and come within two feet of Logan Babbs' 56' 11" (17.35m) school record. Swicegood also secured the victory in the women's shot put with a 38' 3¼" (11.67m) throw for first place.

Both Leech and Swicegood earn their first ODAC Athlete of the Week honors for the indoor season. Leech was named an Athlete of the Week once before during the outdoor season in 2024. Lynchburg returns to action in the new year for The Burg Open, hosted by Lynchburg on the campus of Liberty University at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex on Friday, Jan. 9.
