Springfield, Ohio --Â Chasen Hunt and Tristan Wright solidified new school records for the Lynchburg indoor track & field squads over the split-squad weekend in Springfield and Roanoke.
The Hornets' distance squad traveled to Wittenberg University to compete in the Steemer Showcase on Saturday, while other teammates opened action at the Roanoke Bast-Cregger Invitational.
In Ohio, Chasen Hunt posted the ninth-fastest mile time in DIII history with a 4:02.58 performance. His time smashes the previous school record by four seconds and gives Hunt a golden opportunity to break the four-minute barrier by the conclusion of the indoor season. Only three men have ever dipped under four minutes in DIII.
Six Hornets placed inside the top-10 of the men's mile to complement Hunt's performance. Marko Kovacevic posted a 4:12.21 personal best to finish second, while Cooper Hurst registered 4:14.79 for third. Randy White (4:15.72), Josh Fretwell (4:18.94), and Jack Weddle (4:18.97) finished fourth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
Four athletes posted mile times that would qualify for the program's top-10 list coming into the meet.
Tor Hotung-Davidsen had a spectacular 1:50.39 finish in the men's 800, coming in first overall in the event and tying the 15th-best time in division III history. His time was less than one second off of his personal best in the men's 800 of 1:49.17 that he achieved in 2023, which ranks fifth in DIII history and atop the rankings of Lynchburg's all-time men's 800 finishes.
Molly Silva placed second in the women's mile, clocking 5:09.24 for the fifth-fastest time in program history indoors. The senior also posted 2:22.13 in the women's 800 for seventh.Â
Hannah Edwards ran 2:16.98 in the women's 800, improving her previous fourth-best time in program history by a second. Allison Dell also posted a podium finish in the women's 3k, crossing the line in 10:07.75 for third place. Delaney Saulsbury finished 10th with an 18:47.74 performance.
In the men's 5k, Lynchburg slated three inside the top five. Freshman Alex Jordan finished third with a 14:48.39 result in his first collegiate 5,000; Jonathan Cobb (14:51.87) finished fourth and earned his first personal best in the 5k since 2021, while freshman Cameron Sidebotham crossed the line in 14:55.12 for fifth place.
Lynchburg's sprint squads also enjoyed historic performances from Roanoke College.
Tristan Wright improved his 60m dash school record for the third time this season, clocking a 6.80 performance in finals to finish second. His time stands seventh-best in DIII and presents a chance for Wright to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
In the women's 60m hurdle finals, Betsy Mohnkern set a season-best, clocking 8.92 to finish in second place. The All-American finished 11th at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach.
The pair of sprinters also earned top-ten finishes in Saturday's 200m dash. Wright placed ninth in the men's race, clocking 22.81, while Mohnkern placed 10th in the women's race with 26.69.Â
Jacob Hodnett earned sixth in the men's 400m dash with a 51.06 result. Peter Morales placed seventh in the men's 800m, registering a 2:03.95 finish.
The Hornets also secured six top-ten results in field events.
Allison Bobst topped the pole vault field with an 11' 3.75" (3.45m) mark, while Cameron Weber finished fifth with a 10' 4" (3.15m) result. On the men's side, Julian Powell finished second (13' 7.25" or 4.15m).
Freshman Jaren Lee placed second in the men's high jump with a 6' 3.5" (1.92m) mark. Demetri Hinton placed ninth in the triple jump (44' or 13.41m), and Kenzie Swicegood finished seventh in the women's weight throw (46' 8.25" or 14.23m).
Lastly, Micah Leech continued his success in the men's heptathlon, placing inside the top three of six events with 4785 points. Leech finished second in the final results.
