Harris Hits 1,000 Career Points, Breaks Program Record For 3PTs At EMU

Harrisonburg, Va. -- Senior guard Olivia Harris hit the 1,000 career points mark in spectacular fashion with a career-best 25 points in the University of Lynchburg women's basketball team loss to Eastern Mennonite, 62-51, on Saturday afternoon in Yoder Arena.

Harris not only notched 1k for her career, but she also nailed three 3-pointers in the contest to break the program record for the Hornets (8-14, 5-10). She now has 154 made 3-point shots throughout her time at Lynchburg, snapping the previously held record of 153 held by Olivia DeFrancesco. 

Pacing the Lynchburg offense, Harris tallied 25 points and now has 1,022 total points over her four years with the squad. In tonight's matchup, she added eight boards, three steals, and one assist to her record-breaking performance. Sophomore guard Kate Littlejohn was the other Hornet to score in double-figures with 10 points.

Lynchburg took a 23-15 advantage after the first 10-minutes of action, but was held to just two points in the second quarter. After a commanding first period, Eastern Mennonite chipped away and owned a 29-25 edge going into the halftime intermission. The lead swung back-and-forth in the third quarter, but the Royals put together a run of seven consectuive points to take a double-digit advantage in the fourth and effectively held that for the remainder of the affair.

Lauren Townsend was the top scorer for EMU, notching 18 points and dishing out three assists while grabbing seven boards. Jayla Gray was effective on the glass with a game-high 11 rebounds.

Next up, the Hornets return home to face cross-town rival Randolph on Tuesday, February 18 at 7 p.m. before the regular-season finale against Mary Washington on Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m.
