Men's Tennis Takes Down William Peace In Near Sweep For Home Opener

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's tennis team won 6-1 in their first home match of the season against William Peace Saturday afternoon.

Lynchburg dominated in doubles action, dropping only one game across all three courts. Luca Morbioli and Timothee Depaquit bageled William Peace's top flight of doubles, and the veteran duo of Alex Rintoul and Sebastian Sierra did the same on court two. Dan Hardy and Jorge Patricio Zepeda breadsticked their opponents on court three.

Lynchburg dropped only one singles match. Rintoul was the first to finish his match, as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory on court three. He was followed by freshman Sebastian Soria, who won his match at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-2. Timothee Depaquit clinched the match for the Hornets on court four with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Hardy quickly added to Lynchburg's match score, bageling his opponent in straight sets at No. 6 singles. Sophomore Shadi Kallel dropped the only match of the day for the Hornets in a three-set thriller against William Peace's Juliann Starland, falling 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 at the top flight. Freshman Oliver Lizano closed the match with a 6-4, 5-7, 10-9 victory on court five.

Lynchburg (1-0) will travel to Brigewater, VA to face Bridgewater College in their first ODAC match of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.
