Forest, Va. -- Following a narrow victory against 15th-ranked Cortland, sophomore pitcher
Colin McGuire was tabbed the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday evening.
McGuire stepped onto the mound to start the sixth inning and finished out the game, helping the No. 9 Hornets take down the No. 15 Red Dragons, 2-1. In the four innings he pitched, he faced 15 batters and threw six strikeouts, allowing just one hit. He successfully earned the save en rout to the victory.
The Hornets won five straight competitions to open the season. This past weekend, Lynchburg matched up against three teams for the D3 Showcase and finished with a 2-1 record, taking down Cortland and Marietta but falling to No. 5 Denison.
The baseball crew has one more road outing before the home opener, taking on Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. on Wednesday, February 26 at 2:30 p.m.
