Hornets Continue Indoor Campaign at Liberty Open

Lynchburg, Va. – The Lynchburg indoor track & field teams returned to action at the Liberty Open, posting five top-10 results against competition across all NCAA divisions.

Friday night, Betsy Mohnkern clocked 9.00 in the 60m hurdle prelims for 10th place, narrowly missing the finals cut which featured the top-eight performers.

Allison Bobst vaulted to a second-place finish in the women's pole vault lower section, setting an 11' 1¾" (3.40m) mark. On the men's side, Julian Powell vaulted 14' 1¼" (4.30m) for third place in the lower section.

Freshman Ryan Warner placed fifth in the men's 1k with a 2:32.27 performance. Before this event, Warner had never competed in the 1000m either on the high school or collegiate level.

On Saturday, Jaren Lee set a 6' 5" (1.96m) mark in the men's high jump for a ninth-place finish.

Hannah Edwards ran 59.27 in her first collegiate individual 400m, placing 18th in the field.

To cap the day, Georgie Lanham earned a 21-second personal-best in the women's 3k with an 11:02.81 performance for 29th place out of 78 athletes.

Several Hornets rested this weekend ahead of a three-week sprint to the 2025 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Indoor Championships at Roanoke College. Next weekend's final split-squad affair between Boston University and Roanoke College will feature several athletes looking to solidify ODAC or NCAA qualifying marks ahead of the postseason.

Lynchburg's distance squad will also enter a pair of distance-medley relay squads at Boston's Valentine Invitational with hopes of solidifying spots at the NCAA Championships. Last season, the Lynchburg men's DMR squad captured the national title with a 9:47.17 performance, which broke the championship record.

Boston's Valentine Invitational is a two-day event between Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15. The Joe LaRocco Invitational will be hosted by Roanoke College on Saturday, February 15.
