Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's and Women’s Tennis Take Down Messiah

Hilton Head, S.C. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's tennis teams concluded their spring break slate of matches with a win over Messiah Thursday morning. 

The men's team took a 6-1 victory over the Falcons. Juniors Dan Hardy and Sebastian Sierra opened doubles play for the Hornets with a 6-2 victory on the bottom court. Junior Alex Rintoul and Sophomore Sebastian Soria cruised to a 6-2 victory on court two, clinching the doubles point for Lynchburg. Freshmen Luca Morbioli and Timothee Depaquit fell at the top flight of doubles 5-7. 

In singles action, Depaquit won his match at No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-2. Sierra followed on court four with a 6-2, 6-4 win. Rintoul fell in a tight three-set battle on court three. Morbioli made easy work of his match on the top court, bageling his opponent in both sets to clinch the match for the Hornets. Soria and junior Jorge Patricio Zepeda added wins to the Hornet's score. 

The women's team won their match with a score of 4-1. Graduate student Maria Caro and junior Ashley Hair teamed up for a 6-2 victory at the top doubles flight. Freshmen Kayla Kosiorek and Harper Dodd clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory on court two. Senior Elora Grochowski and junior Reese McAtee dropped their match on court three 3-6. 

Lynchburg opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-4 victory from Hair on court three. Caro dropped both sets with a score of 4-6 on the top court. Kosiorek won a three-set battle on court two 6-4, 4-6, 10-5. Dodd clinched the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 victory on court four. McAtee and Grochowski's matches were unfinished because of the clinch.

Men's tennis (6-0, 1-0 ODAC) will resume ODAC play in Virginia Beach, Va. against Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday Mar. 22 at 2 p.m. Women's tennis improves to 3-1, and will face Hollins in Salem, Va. on Friday, Mar. 21 at 3 p.m.
