Salem, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's tennis team took a 7-0 victory over Hollins Friday afternoon to open conference play this season.
The Hornets opened the match by claiming all three doubles matches. Junior Reese McAtee and senior Elora Grochowski were the first to finish their doubles match, winning 6-0 on court three. The freshmen duo of Kayla Kosiorek and Harper Dodd quickly succeeded with a 6-0 victory on court two. Graduate student Maria Caro and junior Ashley Hair completed the sweep with a 6-4 win on the top court.
In singles play, Caro won her match at the top flight 6-2, 6-1. Hair won both sets 6-2 on court two. Dodd battled to a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the third flight. McAtee won her match at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-2. Grochowski cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles. Freshman Kamerin East, slotted at the sixth seed, won her match 6-1, 6-4, earning the first win of her collegiate career.
Lynchburg (4-1, 1-0 ODAC) faces Bridgewater at E.C. Glass High School on Sunday, Mar. 23.
