Lynchburg, Va. -- The Hornets men's volleyball team dropped their third consecutive conference contest falling to Eastern Mennonite in four sets.
Neck Redding finished with a team-high 14 kills on the afternoon.
Bryce Jackson contributed seven kills and tabbed two blocks and two aces for Lynchburg.
Miller Varley led the squad with 24 assists and seven digs.
The two sides began the match with a competitive first frame. At the midway mark, both teams were deadlocked at 13 points. Nevertheless, a late 6-3 run from the Royals pushed them toward the finish line to secure a 25-21 victory in the opening set.
In the second set, the Royals came out firing on all cylinders. Eastern Mennonite opened up with a 15-7 advantage that would help them cruise to a 25-13 win. In the first two frames, the Royals notched a hitting percentage of .500 or better with only three attacking errors.
In the ensuing frame, Lynchburg began to find their rhythm. Redding collected five of his kills in the match in the third set, helping the Hornets gain momentum. Down by two points at 20-18, Lynchburg went on an 8-5 run to secure a 26-24 win.
However, the Royals regained the momentum in the fourth set, with an 11-2 run in the early stages of the frame. Eastern Mennonite would close out the affair with a 25-15 victory.
Lynchburg (9-11) will now play the final four games of the season. On the road, The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins (13-5) will be next up for
Ryan Turner and company on Wednesday, March 19.
