Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg softball team fell to Salisbury in their doubleheader, doping the first game 2-0 and the second 11-0.
The first game of the afternoon was a defensive battle between two aces in the circle.
After four scoreless innings, a solo home run from the Sea Gulls Karlie Wolfe in the T5 gave Salisbury the first run of the afternoon. In the ensuing inning, Salisbury added to their total after an RBI double from Emily Stockman to drive in Ellen Stockman.
Kailey Drocsisi threw all seven innings for the Hornets, allowing two runs, five hits, and one walk. The senior right-hander also tabbed five strikeouts in the first game. Nevertheless, the Hornets failed to bring a run home, despite four base knocks, to lose 2-0.
In game two, Salisbury's offense got going right away. Back-to-back singles to begin the contest put runners in a great position for a sacrifice fly from Emily Stockman for Emily Challender to score. The Seagulls then kept Lynchburg scoreless and added another run in the T3.
While Lynchburg was able to stay within striking distance for the majority of the contest, the Salisbury offense erupted in the final two innings. Two runs scored in the T6 and seven more came across to seal the affair in the T7.
All four pitchers appeared in the second game for Lynchburg, but the Sea Gulls were unfazed by the changes, notching 10 team hits.
The Hornets (9-4) now turn to another ranked opponent on Moon Field with the No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan Marlins (13-1) coming to town on Saturday, March 22, for a Code Red doubleheader.
