Lynchburg Falls to Shenandoah

Winchester, Va.-- For the fourth and fifth time this season, the Hornets fell in a one-run game, losing to Shenandoah 4-3 and 2-1.

In the first game of the afternoon, Lexi Powell led the team with two hits and one run. Kailey Drocsis pitched a complete game, allowing five hits, three walks, and recording three strikeouts.

Lynchburg struck first in the top of the third inning with a sacrifice fly from Alyssa Talayumptewa. However, Shenandoah quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run homer to left-center field.

The Hornets answered back in the top of the fourth with a double steal—Carly Hudnall advanced to third and Maidon Barnes to second—which led to a throwing error by the catcher, allowing Hudnall to score. Barnes then crossed home plate on a groundout from Zoe Elliot, tying the game at 3-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, Shenandoah reclaimed the lead with an RBI single. Lynchburg was unable to rally in the seventh, going down in order to fall 4-3.

The second game of the day turned into a defensive battle.

Talayumptewa was the only Lynchburg player to record multiple hits, also driving in the team's lone run. Emily Charlton pitched a complete game, surrendering six hits, one earned run, and issuing no walks.

Shenandoah struck early, scoring in the bottom of the first on a fielder's choice.

Lynchburg tied the game in the fourth inning when Talayumptewa's RBI single down the left side brought home Sarah Watts.

For the third time in five games, the Hornets found themselves in extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Shenandoah capitalized on an infield error to secure the 2-1 victory.

Lynchbrg (11-9) returns home for their next matchup against the Guilford Quakers (9-15) for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 2, starting at 2:30 p.m.
