Danville, Va. --The Lynchburg men's volleyball team continued its strong conference play with a dominant 3-0 road victory against the Averett Cougars.
Nick Redding led the offensive charge with a game-high 13 kills and two blocks on defense. Mason Kenna also delivered a solid performance, recording 10 kills, nine digs, and one block. Setter Miller Varley orchestrated the attack, dishing out 34 assists—his highest total in a three-set match this season.
Lynchburg set the tone early with an explosive offensive start, jumping out to a 7-2 lead in the first set. The Hornets maintained control as the Cougars struggled to slow their relentless attack. Lynchburg registered 16 kills on 29 attempts with just three errors, finishing the frame with an impressive .448 hitting percentage to claim a 25-18 win.
Averett responded with a stronger effort in the second set, keeping the game competitive. However, a 9-2 Lynchburg run shifted the momentum back in the Hornets' favor. Key kills from Jeremiah Costello helped secure a 25-21 victory in the second frame.
Lynchburg's defense took over in the final set, shutting down the Cougars' offense. Led by Jackson Bryce's dominant presence at the net, the Hornets held Averett to a -.107 hitting percentage. With a smothering defensive effort, Lynchburg sealed the match with another 25-18 win.
Having won four of their last five matches, the Hornets now turn their attention to another conference showdown. They will face the Roanoke Maroons on Saturday, March 8, at noon, followed by a matchup against Bethel later that day at 4 p.m
