Lynchburg, Va. – The Lynchburg men's volleyball team split its Saturday doubleheader, falling 3-1 to Roanoke before bouncing back with a 3-0 sweep of Bethany.

Game 1: Roanoke 3, Lynchburg 1

The Hornets opened the day against ODAC rival Roanoke.

Nick Redding led the team with a season-second-best 19 kills, while Mason Kenna also reached double digits with 11 kills and two blocks. Bryce Jackson contributed defensively with four blocks, marking the sixth time this season he has reached that total.

Despite a strong offensive start from Roanoke, Lynchburg had one of its best attacking performances of the season in the opening set. The Hornets hit an impressive .667 and used a late 7-3 run to secure a 25-23 victory.

Roanoke responded in the second set with a dominant start, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. Lynchburg battled back with an 8-3 run late in the frame but ultimately fell short, as the Maroons held on for a 25-23 win.

With the match tied at 1-1, the third set was another tight battle. A late 5-2 Roanoke run proved to be the difference, giving the Maroons a 25-20 edge. In the fourth set, Roanoke took full control, shutting down the Lynchburg attack and closing out the match with a commanding 25-13 victory.

Between Lynchburg's two matches, Roanoke swept Bethany in three sets.

Game 2: Lynchburg 3, Bethany 0

The Hornets returned to the court and rebounded with a strong performance against Bethany.

Redding again led the team with a game-high nine kills, while Jeremiah Costello added eight kills and two aces. Jackson dominated at the net with five blocks, while Stefan Kapitanov and Costello contributed four rejections each.

Lynchburg came out firing in the first set, hitting .357 while holding Bethany to a -.211 mark. The Hornets' well-rounded play on both ends resulted in a dominant 25-10 win.

Bethany responded with a much tighter second set, pushing Lynchburg late. The Hornets trailed 23-22 before closing on a clutch 4-1 run to secure a 26-24 victory.

The third set was another back-and-forth battle. Early 4-0 runs from Bethany kept the Bison in contention, and both teams traded points down the stretch, leading to a 24-24 tie. Bethany fought off multiple match points, but a Jackson kill followed by a Bison attack error sealed a 28-26 win and the sweep for Lynchburg.

Lynchburg (9-9) remains at home for its next match, hosting Randolph-Macon on Wednesday, March 12, for another ODAC showdown.
