Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg women's lacrosse team secured its first home victory of the season in dominant fashion, defeating Virginia Wesleyan 16-3.
McKenna Steinau led the charge with a game-high four goals and one assist. Neely Morris notched her first hat trick of the season, scoring three times, while Mya Hausauer added two goals and two assists to fuel the Hornets' offense.
Virginia Wesleyan struck first, scoring in the opening minutes of the game. However, Lynchburg wasted no time responding, as Morris and Steinau combined for four consecutive goals to close out the first quarter. The Hornets carried that momentum into the second, netting five more goals to establish firm control.
Lynchburg remained relentless after halftime, adding four more unanswered goals while shutting down the Marlins' attack. Hausauer found the back of the net again in the fourth quarter before Virginia Wesleyan finally halted Lynchburg's 14-0 scoring run.
The Hornets excelled in transition, successfully clearing the ball on 14 of 15 attempts while forcing 19 Marlin turnovers.
The Hornets now turn to the road for two contests in Lake Wales, Fla., starting with Warner University on Monday, March 10. Lynchburg will play their next home game on March 18 for and ODAC game against FerrumÂ
