Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's And Women's Tennis Fall To Randolph

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's tennis teams both hosted Randolph on Saturday and were defeated at E.C. Glass High School. Both teams lost by a final score of 6-1.

On the men's side, the Hornets (7-4, 2-4) dropped the doubles point. The number one duo of Timothee DePaquit and Luca Morbioli grabbed two game wins against Jacob Martin and Andreas Mulner, but ultimately lost 6-2. Alex Rintoul and Sebastian Soria played in the two spot while Dan Hardy and Sebastian Sierra played in the three spot. Both pairs lost, 6-0.

The lone Hornet to claim a win in the singles event was DePaquit in the number five spot against Jason Duval in a three-set thriller, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Rintoul battled in the four spot against Carlos Haupt, losing in a tie-breaking third set, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6. 

Morbioli was edged out by Mulner in the number one spot, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3). Sierra dropped his match against Vincenzo Marchese in the three spot, 6-4, 6-2, while Jorge Patricio Zepeda lost to Lukas Rathgeb in the six spot, 6-3, 6-2.

The women's team (6-5, 3-4) also were defeated in the doubles event. Maria Caro and Ashley Hair fell in the number one spot to Lena Kersten and Lize van Veen, 6-3. The pair of Reese McAtee and Elora Grochowski lost to Gianna Cabrera and Maddie Milles in the three spot, 6-2. Harper Dodd and Kayla Kosiorek lost 6-0 in the two spot to Emma Bauer and Fleur Gaalman.

In the singles event, McAtee was the sole Lynchburg performer to claim a team point with a win in the five spot over Mill, 7-6, 6-4. Grochowski dropped to Sabrina Dickerson in the six spot, 6-4, 6-1. Hair and Kosiorek each won three games across two sets, but ultimately lost in the three and two spots, repsectively. Dodd fell to Bauer in the four spot by 6-1 in each set and Caro was defeated in the number one spot by Kersten, 6-0, 6-0.

The women's tennis team is right back into action tomorrow against Ferrum on Sunday, April 13 at 3 p.m., while the men's tennis team is set to take on Roanoke in Salem, Va. on Wednesday, April 16 at 3 p.m.
