Lynchburg, Va. — The Lynchburg women's lacrosse team dropped their final home game of the regular season, falling to Roanoke 20-10 on Wednesday evening.
The Hornets came out strong in the opening quarter. After Roanoke struck first, Lynchburg quickly responded with back-to-back goals within 90 seconds to take the lead. Senior Sydney Dumas was electric early, scoring four goals in the first 15 minutes—matching Roanoke's entire first-quarter output on her own.
Lynchburg carried a narrow 5-4 lead into the second quarter, but the momentum soon shifted. Roanoke's offense exploded for seven unanswered goals, building a commanding 11-5 advantage. Elizabeth Poitras managed to find the back of the net before halftime, trimming the deficit slightly, but Lynchburg entered the break trailing 11-6.
The Maroons kept their foot on the gas in the third quarter, outscoring the Hornets 5-2 and maintaining firm control. Lynchburg's offense struggled to create open looks but made the most of their opportunities, converting both goals in the quarter on free-position shots.
Despite the scoreline, the contest remained relatively clean, with just 17 total turnovers and a solid 28-for-31 combined mark on clear attempts. However, Roanoke dominated the ground ball game, collecting 14 to Lynchburg's six. They also outshot the Hornets significantly, 37-24.
Roanoke put the game away in the final frame, outscoring Lynchburg 4-2 to secure the 20-10 victory and head back to Salem on a high note.
With the regular season winding down, Lynchburg now looks ahead to their final matchup on the road against the EMU Royals (6-9, 4-4) on Wednesday, April 23.
