Harrisonburg, Va. – The Lynchburg women's lacrosse team closed out their regular season in dominant fashion with a commanding 21-8 victory over the EMU Royals.
Neely Morris led the offensive onslaught for the Hornets, racking up seven points with five goals and two assists. She tallied both assists and a hat trick within the first 15 minutes of play. Sydney Dumas also made a major impact, scoring four goals and adding two assists. Elizabeth Poitras and McKenna Steinau each recorded a hat trick as well with three goals apiece.
The Hornets came out firing in the opening quarter, netting two goals within the first two minutes—both on man-up opportunities. Though EMU responded with a goal of their own, Lynchburg quickly pulled away, scoring nine unanswered goals to close out the first quarter.
Lynchburg continued their offensive pressure in the second quarter, outshooting the Royals 26-8 in the first half. Despite a more competitive frame from EMU, the Hornets extended their lead, heading into halftime up 17-5.
Dumas took the reins in the third quarter, adding two more goals as Lynchburg outscored EMU 4-1. The Royals managed to win the fourth quarter 2-0, but the deficit was far too great to overcome.
With the 21-8 win, Lynchburg wraps up the regular season at 12-5 overall and 6-4 in conference play, earning the No. 5 seed in the ODAC tournament. The Hornets will host No. 8 seed Ferrum in the first round on Saturday, April 26.
