Danville, Va. -- The Lynchburg softball team split their weekend doubleheader against the Averett Cougars, dropping the first 3-0 and winning the second 6-1.
In the first game of the afternoon, the Hornets notches three hits, with one from
Lexi Powell,
Madison Barnes, and
Carly Hudnall.
The Cougars tabbed the first run of the night in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead. Averett added two more runs to their total in the fifth frame.
The Hornets went three up, and three down in the sixth and seventh innings to seal a 3-0 victory.
In the second game of the day, Lynchburg's offense quickly found its rhythm.
Hudnall led the charge for the Hornets with three hits and three runs in three at-bats.
After Averett scratched across home plate in the first to take the lead, a Kaliegh Hackett single up the middle drove in Hudnall for the equalizer.
In the fourth, Lynchburg added four more runs, starting with a Hudnall single for Barnes to score. Shortly after,
Bri Hodges brought in
Alex Love and Hudnall with a two-RBI double.
Layla Lietzan capped off the frame by scoring on a wild pitch.
Hackett added extra insurance for Lynchburg in the sixth with an RBI single.
Emily Charlton closed out the affair to capture the 6-1 win for the Hornets.
Lynchburg returns home for a doubleheader against Randolph on Tuesday, April 8.
