Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg softball team secured a pair of ODAC victories, defeating Randolph 9-1 (5 innings) and 8-5.
Zoe Elliott and Lexi Powell led the way in game one with a game-high three hits apiece, while Sarah Watts went 2-for-2 with three RBIs.
The Hornets got off to a hot start with three straight hits to open the game. Watts put Lynchburg on the board first with a two-RBI stand-up double to left-center.
Randolph answered in the third with its only run of the game, capitalizing on a Lynchburg error.
Lynchburg added two more in the bottom of the third thanks to another double from Watts and an RBI single by Madison Barnes. The Hornets sealed the run-rule win in the fifth with two walks, a sacrifice fly, and three hits that drove in five runs.
Emily Charlton earned the win in the circle, allowing just four hits, one walk, and no earned runs, while striking out two.
After the break, both teams returned for a more competitive second game.
Watts capped off her stellar day with three hits, two runs, and an RBI. Carly Hudnall and Barnes also recorded multi-hit performances.
Lynchburg built a 6-0 lead early, but the Wildcats clawed back with two runs in the sixth. The Hornets answered with two of their own to maintain control.
Randolph cut the deficit to three in the seventh, but Lynchburg held on to complete the sweep.
The Hornets improve to 16-10 overall and 7-5 in ODAC play. Next up is a three-doubleheader road stretch, beginning at Sweet Briar on Saturday, April 12.
